About the event
Rosemarie Venske Schaaf Betz was born in Falkenburg, Germany (now part of Poland) in November 1937. In February of 1945, the city was heavily bombed. Rosemarie’s mother and grandfather were killed in a bombing raid. The next day, they received a telegram informing them that her father, who had been drafted into the army, was missing in action on the Russian front. He later died in a Russian prison camp.
Rosemarie and her younger brother Joachim were taken in by their grandmother. After the war, the family was forced to relocate to Thűringen in East Germany. A few years later, Rosemarie and her brother fled to relatives in West Germany and were eventually adopted by a great aunt living in Philadelphia.
Rosemarie married Herbert Betz in 1962. The couple raised four children. Over the past sixty years, they have been involved in missionary work in South America, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and Israel. Rosemarie currently resides in Morgantown, PA. She…
